Throughout his five years of wrestling, junior Cody W. has won many matches and titles to get him where he is today. Cody W. started wrestling in the 7th grade at Riverchase Middle School, and he plans on wrestling after high school. Cody said, “I started wrestling because my dad did it in high school, and I look up to him; he pushes me forward, I wrestle now because it’s something I love to do.”

Cody has been in many matches and tournaments. He even went to state his sophomore year. Cody has participated in was the Panther Classic hosted by Pelham High School. His sophomore year he won the tournament. As a junior, he returned in the 160 lb. weight class, improved and ready to wrestle in the tournament once again. “I train and practice every day to improve on my skills and technique, and I just keep pushing forward to win.”

The tournament was a total of two days here at Pelham. The final match in the tournament was to determine who would win. Cody wrestled Colby M., a student from Calera High School.

Cody won the Panther Classic once again for his second year in a row. “It feels good to win the tournament for the second year. It shows that hard work and determination really pay off,” said Cody Wehunt.

Cody likes to help first year and future wrestlers train and practice. Cody says, “Helping people wrestle and teaching them is a great feeling. To know that I’m not only helping people become better wrestlers I’m improving myself by teaching them that no matter what obstacles you face in life you just have to keep pushing and working hard because in the end it all pays off and you can succeed.”
