The runners of the Pelham High School Cross Country team are looking forward to what should turn into a very exciting season. This year the Cross Country team will be coached by Jennifer Argo and Coach Springfield. The first meet takes place on September 3rd at Montevallo. Returning seniors are excited about the prospect of returning to compete and being able to use the skills they were able to master over previous seasons.

The meets will take place in locations all over the state, including Montevallo, Moulton, Hoover, and Chattanooga. There are 22 boys and 10 girls on this year’s team. Last year the girls placed 6th at state. Coach Argo and Coach Springfield have been coaching the cross country team for the past two years. The races span a distance of 5k, which is the equal to 3.1 miles.

Cross Country serves not only as a sport of its own, but also as a source of conditioning for athletes who plan to compete in the spring. Many Pelham Panther Track and Field competitors spend their fall running for the cross country team.

Tryouts took place during the first week in August. Those who are interested in competing this year should speak with Coach Argo in room 202.
